AI-Enhanced Weather Forecasting for Power Grid Operations

Opis

Many critical operations in the energy sector---from dynamically managing transmission line capacity to preventing transformer overheating---are directly affected by weather conditions. This service provides AI-based local weather forecasting tools designed for weather-dependent energy applications, with a focus on transmission network management. It supports use cases such as Dynamic Thermal Rating (DTR) of power lines and transformer stations, helping grid operators optimize the use of existing infrastructure and improve operational reliability. The service primarily relies on meteorological measurements to build data-driven AI models for improved local weather prediction. Additionally, it can combine them with numerical weather prediction data, and---where available---terrain/LiDAR data using advanced AI forecasting techniques. The service includes data assimilation and preprocessing pipelines, and probabilistic forecasting with uncertainty quantification.
