RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) System for Historical Computing Documentation

Opis

This service provides a Retrieval-Augmented Generation System (RAG) designed to support access to historical computing documentation and technical heritage materials. The system integrates knowledge from curated collections of vintage computing sources, including service manuals, hardware datasheets, technical books, historical computer magazines, and online documentation related to the repair, maintenance, and operation of early computer systems. The system enables users to query and retrieve relevant information from these heterogeneous sources using natural language. By combining semantic search with a language model, the service provides reliable, context-aware answers derived directly from historical technical documents. The system helps users locate specific technical information such as hardware specifications, troubleshooting procedures, configuration instructions, and descriptions of legacy systems. The service improves access to historically significant technical knowledge that is often scattered across scanned documents, archives, and enthusiast websites. It supports research in the history of computing, digital humanities, and technical heritage preservation while also assisting hobbyists, restorers, and educators working with vintage computer systems. The service uses Sentence Transformers to generate document embeddings with the BGE-M3 embedding model, while the embeddings are stored and searched using the Qdrant vector database. This architecture enables fast and accurate retrieval of relevant document passages that are used to generate context-aware responses.
